Hidden NOLA: Cheap Snow-Balls!

Used to be, you could get a Snow Ball for a nickel in the 7th Ward. Correctly identify the location of this fading, hand-painted sign and win pride and glory. But not a five-cent snowball, I'm afraid.

Hidden NOLA: A very old ad

This isn't just a "hidden NOLA" bit, it's also an "endangered NOLA" snapshot. Find out where it is, and while you're at it, take a picture. It's unlikely that it will be around too much longer.

Hidden NOLA: Answer for Gators, Oh My!

Yes, I was at the zoo! I love the choice of animals that kids get the ride and it's only $1 with a zoo membership. I only know of two carousels in New Orleans, Audubon and City Park. Are there any more?

Andstephslike was the big winner for this round of Hidden NOLA. Thanks for playing!

Ok, this one should be pretty easy.

NOLApic: Brass Jazz band and Hidden NOLA answer

We pick the best images added to the Blogging New Orleans flickr group and post a resized version with a link to the original here. Be sure to check back here for another NOLApic.

Before our NOLApic how about an answer to last week's Thursday's Hidden NOLA: Nature in the City. I snapped that nature scene down the street from an event that will be in the fair grounds later this month. I was standing on the corner of City Park Ave and the end of Carrolton Ave on the edge of Mid-City and City Park. Right behind me is the street and Bayou St. John. Off to the right of the image in the background (and not shown) is the New Orleans Museum of Art (free to Louisiana residents for all but Femme, Femme, Femme and that's cheaper for us and even better for college students. On to the NOLApic.

Today's NOLApic is of a brass jazz band sculture in the French Quarter (I can't remember exactly where though, maybe this is a hidden nola after all). New Orleans 2007, originally uploaded by iwillgo. You can have your pics posted here too, just join the Blogging New Orleans flickr group and post your best NOLApics.

I took this picture just a couple weeks ago right before sunset while on a walk with the better half (its possible she snapped the shot, I can't remember which of us got it). Yes this is in the city and near traffic and people. Extra credit if you can name what's directly behind me and what's just off frame. Hidden NOLA: Answer for Angels a la Mosaic

Ok, I left this picture up without an answer over the weekend because no one wanted to play along. Maybe it was too hard (although how many Greek mosaics are there in New Orleans?). Maybe everyone was outside playing which is a reasonable assumption. Finally, I saw a guess in the comments and it was correct! However, it came from The Husband who was there when I took the picture.

The mosaic to the right is from The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Robert E. Lee in Lakeview. I took the photo while I was there for Greek Fest 2006. This year's festival will be held May 25th - 27th this year and it's definitely worth the trip out there. If you don't go for the food and entertainment then go to support an area of the city that is fighting hard to return.

I took this picture of a mosaic last spring. You get extra credit if you can name the folks at the table. Remember, you can have your pics posted here too, just join the Blogging New Orleans flickr group and post your best NOLApics.
